RTL v2.02/2.06 Description:
is a keyboard utility which allows you to enter uncommom characters.
RTL (Right-To-Left) is handy for languages where the shape of a particular character is context sensitive. It provides four-characters-per-key input, and supports right-to-left and left-to-right input.
Character input via RTL is independent of the keyboard layout used by Windows, and so the utility can be used without significant limitations by those who use different keyboards than the standard US.
The program uses technology developed by Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) for rendering of non-Roman scripts. At the heart of this technology is a plain text file called script definition file (SDF), which describes how a particular language is represented by a specific font. SDF files can be created with a special visual editor (provided by SIL) by anyone who is familiar with the target language and the implementation of its alphabet in the particular font for which the SDF file is to be created.
Languages for which keyboard modules are available currently include Arabic, Hebrew, Syrian (both classical and modern), and Greek.
The program runs as a convenient icon in the System Tray area of the Windows taskbar.
