OpenGL is the cross platform, high performance standard for 3D graphics applications. Since developing OpenGL drivers can be considerably more complex than developing Direct3D drivers, many video hardware vendors have not been able to release quality OpenGL 1.2 drivers for their hardware in a timely manner.
