What is atahd?

is a command-line ATA and IDE hard drive identification utility.

In depth

A closer look at atahd

The program can display which ATA or IDE ports are active, and to which drives they are connected, as well as detect a drive which has not yet been recognized by the BIOS.

It can also detect and display data for drives on an active ATA or IDE port, even if the primary port is disabled or non-functional.

atahd can report the command queuing capability of the newest drives, and the spindle rotation speed of almost all drives, as well as recognize up to eight ATA and/or IDE hard drives using the standard port addresses of 1F0H, 170H, 1E8H, and 168H.

In addition, the program can support hard drives larger than 8GB.
