A closer look at Seashore 0.1.2

Seashore is an image manipulation program designed for Mac OS X. It is heavily influenced by the GNU Image Manipulation Program from which it borrows some ideas, resources and source code. Despite this, Seashore is a largely original work written to take full advantage of Mac OS X's Cocoa framework. Like the GNU Image Manipulation Program, Seashore is open source.

Seashore is already capable of viewing and editing XCF files (files that are natively produced by the GIMP). But it is not yet feature-complete nor stable enough for everyday use. Nevertheless, Seashore has already begun to take advantage of key Apple technologies such as the G4 Veclocity Engine and HeaderDoc.

With time Seashore will hopefully evolve into an easy-to-use image manipulation program for the Mac. However for the moment, it is still very much a work in progress and is something that must be balanced carefully with the other commitments in my life. Lastly, because Seashore is still in development it is strongly suggested that you never work on the originals of important images as doing so may lead to loss of data.
