Telnet refers to an Internet application that allows you to work with other computers on the Internet as easily as if they were in the same room as you.
It does this by emulating a terminal screen. Macs do not have terminal screens or a "command line interface", but telnet applications offer you both.
When you connect to another computer using MacTelnet, you see in a window what would normally appear on a terminal screen if you were using the remote computer directly.
