You can make standard crossword puzzles, just like the ones you see in your morning paper. You can use the 30,000 word English dictionary supplied with the program, or make your own dictionary and use that instead.

You can also make "classroom puzzles", which are simple free-form puzzles made from very small dictionaries having a maximum of 255 words.They are ideal for adding interest to classroom activities.

You can even make "preset word puzzles". You can choose up to 20 of the words in a crossword puzzle, and let Crossword Express fill in the remaining words from one of the standard dictionaries. These are great for advertising campaigns, or for surprising your friends with a personal greeting embedded in a puzzle.

You can easily print out your puzzles. Simply specify the dimensions you require, and the number of columns of clues. If you like, you can include the solution of a previous puzzle. You can also copy the puzzle to the Clipboard to paste it into your word processing or DTP application.

Puzzles can also be solved on the computer. Crossword Express provides a simple and intuitive "on screen" solver, which includes a cheat function and a scoreboard to let you know how you are going. For the true crossword fanatic, both of these functions can easily be disabled.

The lattice maintenance function lets you make changes to the design of your existing lattices, or create completely new lattices. You are not restricted to square or rectangular shapes. Any shape you can think of can be created and made into a puzzle.

A full range of dictionary maintenance facilities is provided. You can create and edit dictionaries, and import content into a new dictionary from a number of external file formats.
