A closer look at Nltools
NLMaint is an tool designed to assist in the maintenance, checking and dis- tributed processing required in the production and maintenance of FidoNet for- mat nodelists. It was created as a direct and highly compatible replacement of the long used tool MAKENL used by FidoNet technology networks for many years, but which has, unfortunately, become dated by the fact that it was written and published only for the MSDOS operationg system, and using methods and means of distribution which have become, over time, more archaic and obsolete. The num- ber of platforms represented in FidoNet and other networks using its technology is now considerably larger than it was some years ago, with MSDOS itself is gradually sliding into obsolescence. MAKENL also fails to check many aspects of a nodelist entry which have become more critical to correct behaviour of FidoNet mail server software since the time of its publication.
