It is the near future-- or it could be now. The United States of America and the People's Republic of China are on the verge of war. MI6, the British Secret Service, sends agent John Cord to Volgia, a small former republic of the USSR, at the request of the CIA, to help track down a missing agent. What should be a straightforward assignment turns out to be anything but simple. Trapped in a hostile country, forced to rely on uncertain friendships, Cord has to depend on his own reserves of courage and ingenuity, but with millions of lives in danger will they be enough?

This epic espionage game interweaves strong narrative with frantic action, starting with Cord hallucinating, having blacked out, before coming around to find himself being savagely tortured. All that he knows for sure is that he was betrayed, but he does not remember why or by whom. As the torturer interrogates Cord, he begins to remember his recent past. As he does so, you begin to learn about his character, but the identity of his betrayer and the reason for the betrayal remains a mystery right up until the plot's climax. As the story unfolds, you must infiltrate, sneak, and shoot your way through increasingly dangerous locations, getting closer and closer to the ruthless mastermind behind a plan to trigger a nuclear holocaust.
