Tanaka's "missions" vary in difficulty and objective. Some races are run against the clock, others are duels or total carnage races where you must destroy the other pilots to emerge victorious. Another type of mission is the "escort" mission where you must guide another vehicle through the mean streets defending and protecting it from all others, until it reaches safety (the finish line). Upon completion of a race, the pilots in the top three spots are awarded prize money, which can be spent to purchase, equip, or upgrade their crafts.
Tanaka's vehicles are "smart" and highly configurable. You can choose from a variety of different cars, engines, missiles, mines, lasers, and shields to create the right combination for you. A skilled pilot will know how to choose equipment wisely, balancing weaponry and performance, to construct the perfect vehicle.
