FileDate Mover automatically moves files from one specified directory to another by taking into account the date of last modification. It doesn't require any kind of configuration or setup.Before running this application, make sure to set up some dummy files and folders to test it with, or to create backups for your important directories that you want to run FileDate Mover on. It doesn't have a restore option.

Move files into a new folder tree based on the modify date

The interface consists of a small window that asks for the source folder with contains the files which you wish to move, along with their new location. FileDate Mover analyzes their date of last modification and creates a new folder structure with the years and months it finds. In the next and final step, it automatically moves and sorts the items in their corresponding folders.

Evaluation results and observations

The tool generated new folders and moved files swiftly in our tests, without triggering the operating system to hang, crash or prompt error messages. Unsurprisingly, it had minimal impact on computer performance in our tests.On the other hand, FileDate Mover is a simplistic app that lacks essential features and makes it dangerous to handle, since it doesn't come with explicit guidelines or safety measures. For example, it cannot process files from subdirectories and it failed to move all files in our tests, although it didn't mention any problems.On top of that, it doesn't give you the possibility to preview the new folder structure with moved items, nor the option to restore the files to their original location. That's why it's important to create backups manually before using this tool.

Finally

All in all, FileDate Mover looks more like an unfinished project designed for automatic file moving based on the date of last modification. We must also take into account that it hasn't been updated for a long time.
