BS Explorer is a tiny and portable file manager that comes loaded with just a few basic options to help you seamlessly navigate files and folders, perform a search, and play audio tracks. It can be handled by all types of users.

Portability perks

Since there is no setup pack involved, you can save the app directory anywhere on the disk and just click the executable to launch BS Explorer.Another possibility is to save it to a USB flash drive to directly run it on any PC with minimum effort. More importantly, it doesn't add new entries to the Windows registry, so it doesn't increase the risk of OS stability issues.

Simple interface and options

The GUI is user-friendly, represented by a normal window with a clear-cut structure split into two horizontal panes, dedicated to navigating directories and viewing containing files and subfolders. Multiple tabs are supported for opening folders.By default, the app shows all files and folders, but you can hide any of them, as well as change the viewing mode to list. It's possible to launch a Command Prompt dialog in the current location, examine system information, and load MP3 audio tracks in a built-in player.As far as file operations are concerned, you can cut, copy, paste, delete, rename or create new files and folders, view file properties, and edit the selected file. As far as program settings are concerned, BS Explorer enables you to associate various file types with the app.

Evaluation and conclusion

The tool had minimal impact on computer performance, using low CPU and RAM. However, BS Explorer hasn't been updated for a very long time, and it remained in beta development stage.The utility prompted several error dialogs in our tests. It looks like it has compatibility issues with newer Windows editions. To conclude, you should look for a more stable file manager with richer options.
