Overview

What is Ryll Registry Editor?

Ryll Registry Editor : Replace the Windows Registry Editor with a clean, intuitive one, that provides quick import and export options, and simple editing possibilities

In depth

A closer look at Ryll Registry Editor

Almost everything that’s running on your computer is tied more or less to the system registries. These can also be manually tweaked, but you better know what you’re doing when attempting. If the default Windows editor doesn’t quite tickle your fancy, you might try other alternatives like Ryll Registry Editor.

Back up before editing

You quickly get acquainted with all that the application has to offer, especially because of the simplicity and similarity to the default Windows Registry Editor. A side panel is used to quickly navigate through registry hives, while the other shows all items, along with corresponding values. The location you’re in is also shown in the status bar, but can’t be copied. It’s best to make a backup of the whole registry system if you want to go ahead and modify a few entries. What’s more, administrator privileges are also a good thing to consider, just so you don’t run into any access issues. Existing registries can quickly be imported through the open dialog.

Good, but far from being a pro

Apart from the poor, simplistic visual design, the application isn’t fitted with anything else to impress, not that the interface manages to make the impression. Navigation remains the same, in the sense that search tools and hives open up in a similar manner. What’s more, you can’t save bookmarks of frequently visited locations, or copy paths. The context menu gives you the possibility to add new items in both panes correspondingly. What’s more, it’s also a quick way to export custom registry items, but this option can also be triggered from the menu bar, and is the only way you can quickly create a backup of the ones you want to edit.

To sum it up

All things considered, we come to the conclusion that Ryll Registry Editor comes with good intentions, but only leaves a poor impression overall. It doesn’t quite feel any different from the Windows Registry Editor, and if it does, it’s only for the worst. The interface is robust, and doesn’t manage to impress, and neither does the overall set of features.
