UPX Shell allows you to compress your executable files by using the UPX packer technology. This method is mainly used by programmers that want to compress their products in order to reduce the size of the package delivered to the end user.This tool provides you with a graphical interface for easily selecting the files that you want to compress and the UPX version. You can also use the MultiPack option in order to process multiple program components at once.The application supports multiple file formats such as executables, libraries, components or ACM codecs. When using the batch packing method you can scan a folder for all the files with a specified format and select the ones that you need to pack.You can also use this tool to decompress an UPX-packed file if the UPX version is supported by the program. Unfortunately, this tool has not been updated recently so it only includes UPX 1.25, 2.03 and 2.92b.However, you can install the latest version of UPX packer in the program's folder in order to use the newer version. The application automatically detects the new version and adds it to the list of available compressors.Please note that the application modifies the selected file which means you need to create a backup before using it. You can also enable the backup feature from the Options tab.In our tests, the app required insignificant resources during the compression and decompression tasks. The progress of the operation is displayed in the main window along with the ratio between the original and the destination file. The efficiency of the compressor can be tuned by using the slider from the Options tab.UPX Shell aims to help users that do not like the command line interface by providing an easy to use GUI for the UPX packer. It also supports drag and drop which makes it a useful tool for the developers that want to compress their files.
