Tess4J provides users with a Java Native Access (JNA) wrapper specifically built for Tesseract's API.Tesseract is a cross-platform optical character recognition (OCR) engine, released under an open-source license. It allows programmers to integrate OCR capabilities into their applications in an easy manner, by making use of a powerful API to recognize and extract text in pictures, no matter the language and whether it is handwritten, printed or typed.With the help of Tess4J, programmers can implement the capabilities of Tesseract's OCR API in their Java applications. Furthermore, JNA makes it possible for them to call native Java functions.Tess4J provides support for some of the most popular graphic formats, including JPEG, BMP, TIFF, GIF and PNG. It can even extract data from multi-page TIFF files and recognize text in scanned PDF documents.The downloaded package of Tess4J provides you with the source code only. The Tess4J Java wrapper can be used in NetBeans and Eclipse, and the developers provide instructions on how to install and configure the two IDEs to create and execute Java files for Tess4J. Furthermore, you can run Tess4J examples in the command console.
