DllChecker : Analyze DLL and EXE files using INI information to find out product names, file versions and CPU types using this portable utility
Developed in Perl, DllChecker is a lightweight and portable utility that can be used to check DLLs and EXEs with the help of INI configuration files. It's capable of generating reports with the product name, file version and CPU type. For example, you can find out if a file has 32 or 64 bits based on its PE header.
Simple GUI for file analysis
The user-friendly interface is made from a small window with a neatly structured layout, where you can indicate one or more folders containing the DLLs and EXEs you want to recursively scan at the same time, along with the input .ini file to match information against.Once you indicate the output directory, you can opt for plain text or HTML table log format to store results in. The entire analysis operation shouldn't take long, depending on the size of the files, after which you can open the results folder by clicking a button from the main window.
No installation required
The entire program's packed in a single executable file that you can copy to a preferred directory on the disk or move on a removable storage unit, in order to directly launch DllChecker on any PC without setup. It doesn't modify system registry settings, create files on the disk without approval, or need DLLs or other components to work properly.
Evaluation and conclusion
It worked smoothly in our tests and carried out tasks quickly while remaining light on system resources consumption, using a low amount of CPU and memory. No error messages were displayed and the tool didn't freeze or crash. Although it hasn't received updates for a pretty long time, we haven't experienced compatibility issues on newer Windows editions.Overall, DllChecker offers a simple interface and options for examining DLL and EXE files. It's free and open source.
