In depth
A closer look at TWebCopy
TWebCopy is a component which uses the Wininet API to load the selected files via HTTP or FTP from Intranet or Internet sites or can copy files by UNC name over the network. Generally speaking, Microsoft's WinInet API functions are embedded in the operating system to provide easy access to common Internet protocols and provide a high-level API that ensures a faster, reliable and direct path to making web-enabled applications. The library features a progress or perhaps cancel dialog and threaded execution, whereas the ASP script available can handle POST based HTTP uploads. The use of the API eliminates the need for a low-level understanding of the TCP/IP protocol and sockets. The reason for this is that the API converts the protocols into various task-oriented functions. Moreover, you no longer need to write the Winsock code directly as its functions are executed for you.It is worth mentioning that the WinInet API provides a standardized means of programming applications that need to be connected to the Internet and hence, you no longer need to bother with the ever-changing and evolving underlying technology. Since the actual implementations of specifi protocols are hidden within the API, you can be sure that the code works regardless of the specifications.
