MediaInfoGUI .NET : Investigate and export file properties for audio, video and image files using this portable app with support for a wide range of formats
MediaInfoGUI is a small-sized and portable piece of software designed to let you study various file properties of audio, video and image files. It comes packed with a standard set of options that shouldn't be difficult to figure out, even by those less experienced with such apps.
No installation necessary
Since there is no setup pack involved, you can extract the program files to any part of the hard disk and just click the executable to launch MediaInfoGUI. Another possibility is to save it to a USB flash drive to run it on any PC with minimum effort. An important aspect worth mentioning is that the app does not add new entries to the Windows registry or Start menu, thus leaving no traces behind after its removal.
Straightforward interface with intuitive options
The GUI is made of a regular window with a plain and simple structure, where you can add sounds, videos and photos from file or directory. The drag-and-drop method is featured, and MediaInfoGUI offers support for an extensive list of media files.
View and export file properties
Shown properties include the complete name of each file, format, size, duration, bit rate, codec ID, width, height, aspect ratio, frame rate, color space, compression modes, bits, and stream size, among others. This data can be exported to TXT or HTML format for closer examination and safekeeping. In addition, MediaInfoGUI lets you customize font properties and change the UI theme.
Evaluation and conclusion
The tool does not put a strain on computer performance, since it runs on low CPU and RAM. However, it crashed on multiple occasions in our tests when we attempted to open files. We must also take into account that MediaInfoGUI has not been updated for a while and it may have compatibility issues with later operating systems.
