Faltron Java Port Scanner : Set the port range, indicate the process priority and quickly find open ports on your computer or another machine in the local network
Faltron Port Scanner is a free and open-source application written in Java, which can scan your computer or another machine in the local network to identify open ports. This may come in handy for detecting weak spots which permit malware agents to infiltrate and compromise systems, for example.
No setup necessary, besides Java
As long as you have Java installed, you don't need to set up anything else. You can copy the downloaded files to a preferred location on the PC or store them to a USB flash drive, in order to easily run Faltron Port Scanner on any workstation with Java.It doesn't change Windows registry settings or create files on the disk without your approval. The source code is also included in the package for programmers.
Simple GUI with multi-thread support
As far as the interface is concerned, the program opts for a normal window with a simple design and layout, showing all options available. It supports multiple threads and can be asked to favor port scan time or resources consumption, depending on your preferences, by setting its priority to low, medium or high.
Specify the host and port range
Once you've specified the host name or IP address of another machine in LAN, you can define the port range by entering the starting and ending point. The scanner is initialized with one click and can be stopped if it takes too long or if you've lost your patience. All opened ports identified by the program are listed in the main window. There are no buttons implemented for printing or exporting this information to file, but it can be selected and copied by triggering the global keyboard shortcut. There is no context menu available. Apart from the fact that you can clear results to restart the scan, there are no other notable settings provided by the tool.
Finally
Although it doesn't have a rich set of features, Faltron Port Scanner delivers a practical solution for finding open ports on the local computer or other machines in LAN. CPU and RAM usage was minimal in our tests.
