Overview

What is Jitter?

Jitter : Paint.net plugin that enables you to apply a jitter distortion effect to your images as well as set the minimum and maximum distance between pixels, and others

In depth

A closer look at Jitter

Specifically developed for the Paint.net graphic editing application, Jitter is a plugin that features practical configuration options for applying jitter effects to photographs. It can be handled not only by artists or other experienced Paint.net users, but also by amateurs looking to quickly enhance their favorite images.

Easy integration with Paint.net

There is no installation pack involved. The extension is packed in two DLLs files that have to be copied to the "Effects" folder in Paint.net installed directory. This can even be done if you have a portable edition of the photo editor on the computer. If it's currently running, make sure to close and fire it up again to gain access to the new add-on. It can be found in the "Distort" submenu of the "Effects" menu and its entry is accompanied by a tiny icon that resembles the piece of a puzzle, which is an indicator for all external plugins in Paint.net.

Apply the jitter filter and configure settings

As far as jitter customization preferences are concerned, you can set the minimum and maximum distance between pixels, along with the pixel width, spacing and angle. The edge behavior mode is disabled by default. However, you can opt for wrapping, reflection, primary or secondary method. It's also possible to enable anti-aliasing mode as well as randomize the jitter effect.Another notable aspect is that you can keep an eye on the photograph while making modifications, so it's not necessary to commit changes just to be able to check results and undo your actions or delete the newly created layer if you're not satisfied with the outcome.

Evaluation and conclusion

Although it hasn't been updated for a while, Jitter successfully integrated with the latest version of Paint.net in our tests. Thanks to its approachable options, Jitter can be easily tackled.
