Written in Qt, RViewer is a tiny and portable application that enables you to open image files to view their contents. It offers support for SVG, GIF, ICO, JPEG, TIFF and PNG format.

No installation necessary

You can save the program files in a custom location on the hard disk or copy them to a USB flash drive, and simply double-click the .exe to launch RViewer on any computer with minimum effort and without having to install anything beforehand.More importantly, it doesn't add new entries to the Windows registry or create extra files on the HDD without asking for your permission. A simple folder deletion is enough to remove it from the computer.

Simple GUI for viewing and rotating photos

Concerning the interface, the utility adopts a large window with a clear-cut structure, where you can use the embedded file browser to locate and view files, or resort to a file browsing dialog to achieve the same task.It's possible to zoom in and out, view the actual size or fit the photo to the window, go to the previous or next image in the current directory, enter full screen mode to get a better view, as well as rotate the picture to left or right by 90 degrees if necessary.Rotated photos can be overwritten to the original file or saved to a new one. It's not mandatory to preserve the original filetype, which means that the program also acts like an image conversion tool. There are no other notable options available here.

Evaluation and conclusion

Unsurprisingly, it left a small footprint on system resources consumption in our tests, thanks to the fact that it used low system resources. It worked smoothly, without freezing, crashing or indicating errors. Keyboard shortcuts are supported. However, RViewer doesn't contain richer options to be worth replacing your default photo viewer.
