In depth

A closer look at BambiEditor

Multimedia caught a lot of ground with the evolution of technology, especially since modern mobile phones got fitted with powerful cameras. Nearly anyone can now take tons of pictures, and even enhance them with various filters and effects. As such, BambiEditor comes with several tools to help in this regard.

Portable, and easy to use

The application comes with several advantages, one of them being portability. This means it can be used without going through a setup process, and carried around on a thumb drive. On the other hand, you're free to benefit from what it has to offer on other types of operating system besides Windows, and this is possible because it is built to run on Java Runtime Environment, so you need to be sure the target computer has it installed first of all.The core functionality is to help you enhance images, but it also lets you grab them. This latter operation is possible through the built-in webcam capture tool, which automatically detects and reads input from a connected camera. Feedback is displayed on the entire canvas in real-time, with the possibility to add some effects on the spot, such as color channel adjustment, demonize, negative, solarize, grayscale, pixel mirror, and a few more.

Apply filters and effects to custom regions

Working with existing pictures is only possible if they're under formats like JPEG or PNG, and this goes for both importing and exporting. You're free to load more pictures for a single process operation, but this needs to be done one at a time, because drag and drop is not supported, and the browse dialog only reads a single picture per instance. The same number of filters and effects are available for existing pictures, with several more. Different sliders on the side make it possible to quickly adjust some color options, intensity, saturation, and other values. Rulers on the side make it easy to measure areas in case you want to add effects in specific spots, with a toggle button for inches or centimeters. You don't necessarily have to apply an effect to the entire image. A drop-down menu helps change the zoom level. What's more, there's a selector tool in the shape of a rectangle or oval. It's adjusted by dragging its sensitive corner, and effects only apply in that particular region.

A few last words

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that BambiEditor is a fast way of applying a cool set of filters over an entire or specific region of pictures. You can work on existing files, or grab one from a connected webcam. Even though it's not fitted with much control over filter intensity, and file support is rather poor, it gets the job properly done.
