Advantages of a portable app

First of all, you don’t even have to go through a setup process to make the application work. This enables you to carry it on a thumb drive, and use on other computers as well. Furthermore, there’s no need to worry about the health status of the target PC, because no changes are made to system registry entries.The application is good to go directly from launch. With no actual window to work with, a tooltip appears next to your cursor, and follows it around to help with picking the color tone. It’s pretty intuitive, and shows valuable information like coordinates, HEX color code, as well as RGB values.

Good, but far from being a pro

There’s no taskbar icon to get in your way. However, it does create a new tray icon, but it’s the only way to close the application. There are no options to configure. On the other hand, you can assign a hotkey command to the application’s shortcut to launch it easier later on.Unfortunately, you need to keep the cursor still in order to extract values. Moreover, there’s no hotkey command to copy values, so you need to manually write them in an active text document. What’s more, it would have been useful to also have a magnifier follow the cursor around for more accuracy when selecting a color.

All things considered, we come to the conclusion that GetColor is a lightweight application which can instantly show you the HEX, and RGB color code values for the tint you point at with the cursor. Sadly, it can affect mouse movement, and saving values is rather frustrating, with no hotkey to copy values automatically.
