Overview

What is JRView?

JRView : Find out all JRE and JDK versions you have installed on your computer, launch Java files in any preferred environment, and save information

In depth

A closer look at JRView

JRView lists all Java Runtime Environment and Java Development Kit versions you have installed on your system, and it gives you the possibility to launch a Java tool in any preferred environment, whether it's a .class or .jar file.

Portable utility

It's packed in a single executable file that you can save anywhere on the hard drive or keep it stored on a USB flash disk to directly run it on any computer. Although it doesn't change Windows registry settings or require any DLL libraries, it creates a .cfg file at exit for remembering your configuration preferences.

View all JRE/JDK versions and launch Java tools

When it comes the interface, the tool sticks to a simple and well-organized window, where all installed JRE and JDK editions are revealed at startup. You can study the product name, version and base folder for each entry, open their directory in your default file navigator, run any Java app in the selected environment, as well as specify the class name and command-line parameters for an advanced launch.Furthermore, you can show grid lines, refresh information, display a console window, use the Jar name as the main class, as well as enable advanced run when dropping a file in the window. The information for all items or just selected ones can be copied to the Clipboard or saved to file with the text, CSV, HTML or XML format. Keyboard shortcuts are supported.

Evaluation and conclusion

There were no stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that the software application didn't hang, crash or prompt error messages. As we expected, it left a small footprint on system resources consumption, running on low CPU and memory. To sum it up, JRView offers a quick method for finding our all installed Java Runtime Environment and Java Development Kit versions, and for launching Java apps in any environment.
