WinPower : Lightweight, novice-friendly system tray app that can shut down, restart, sleep or hibernate your PC based on a user-defined schedule
If you want your PC to be shut down automatically at a certain time, you normally have to create a new task in the Task Scheduler; not too complicated, but still more difficult than most of us would like.WinPower is a very simple application that makes it easier to shut down your PC, restart it or send it in sleep or hibernation mode on a specific schedule. It could use a couple of improvements, but it is unobtrusive and very intuitive.
A lot easier than creating a scheduled task
To get things started, you just need to launch the executable file and right-click the system tray icon to access the Settings panel. Bear in mind that the option needs to be clicked twice, an issue that will be resolved in a future update. There are only a few parameters that need to be customized, and it is all very novice-friendly. You can select the action to be performed, set the time and specify whether the schedule should be active on weekdays, weekends or throughout the week.
Simple and unobtrusive, but lacks some important customization options
Once you have set everything up, you can just minimize the application to the system tray. You can also configure it to be run automatically at system startup so that there will be no need to open the app again yourself. However, it would be very helpful if the application allowed you to customize the schedule for each day of the week, as it might be necessary to perform these actions at different times on specific days.
Useful application for scheduling shutdowns, restarts, sleep and hibernation
All in all, WinPower is a small, open-source program that makes it easier to set up various automated actions without turning to the Task Scheduler. It needs a few improvements, but it is very easy to configure and doesn’t get in your way.
