DXF : View and edit AutoCAD DXF files easily, thanks to this application that contains a toolbox, logs, configuration settings, and statistics
DXF is a clear-cut and simple-to-use Java-based application that gives you the possibility to view and edit AutoCAD drawings with the DXF format. It is packed in a user-friendly workspace and sports some handy settings to tinker with.
No installation needed, aside from Java
Provided that Java is already installed on the PC, you can drop the JAR file anywhere on the disk and just click it to run. It is also possible to copy DXF to a USB flash drive to directly launch it on any computer with Java installed.Unlike most installers, this tool does not add new entries to the Windows registry or create extra files on the disk without your consent, thus leaving it clean after removal.
Intuitive interface and options
The GUI is made from a large window that integrates a viewer for the drawings, a toolbox, logs, options, statistics, color palette, and a tree view with the drawing elements.
Toolbox, logs, options and stats
So, you can draw points, lines, arcs, circles, ellipses, polylines, traces, solid objects and text, zoom in and out, as well as use a color picker, among others. Plus, you can pick the current line type and thickness. What's more, you can activate log files to examine all activity, change the UI language, set the join parameters and background color, enable line styles, as well as view statistics with the total number of blocks, tables, layers, entities, points, and so on.
Evaluation and conclusion
We have not come across difficulties in our testing thanks to the fact that DXF did not hang, crash or pop up errors. It ran on CPU and RAM. However, it had a small delay in regard to the execution of commands. Its interface needs some major improvements as well. Otherwise, DXF features handy tools for viewing and drawing AutoCAD files.
