In depth

A closer look at QuickFind

QuickFind is a small OS enhancement application designed specifically for helping you access your shortcuts from your Start menu and desktop in a single environment. You can perform searches for quickly identifying a shortcut, as well as rename or delete them.

Simple looks

The program sports a clean layout that embeds only a few settings under the hood. There’s no support for a help manual, just a ‘Readme’ file that offers short descriptions about the utility’s capabilities. All shortcuts are displayed in a list and you may type a user-defined string in order to perform searches. In addition, you are allowed to refresh the list with shortcuts, find dead links, and sort items by filename, file path, creation date, ascending or descending order, or other criteria.

Configuration settings

QuickFind gives you the possibility to restrict the search results to desktop, Start menu, desktop and Start menu, My Favorites, recently used files, or a user-defined location. You may organize your favorite items in preset folders (e.g. Audio, Internet, Music, Tools) or custom directory, run the utility at Windows startup and open it always minimized, keep the main window on top of other application, and minimize the main panel after opening a shortcut. What’s more, you can show tooltips for each shortcut, adjust the opacity of the main panel, integrate the utility in the context menu for quick tasks, and reassign a global hotkey for restoring the main window. One of the interesting configuration settings implemented in QuickFind offers you the option to set different highlighting colors for the list items, namely applications (EXE), Internet files (URL, HTML), text documents (TXT), help files (HLP, CHM), and manuals (PDF).

Bottom line

All in all, QuickFind integrates only a basic feature pack for helping you quickly access your shortcuts. On the downside, the tool hasn’t been updated for a long time, so you can make use of its capabilities especially if you are the owner of an old operating system such as Windows XP or Vista.
