Service Manager enables you to control Windows services. This is a tiny and portable software application that shows many technical details about running services and lets you create or remove them.Since there is no installation pack involved, you can save the program files anywhere on the hard disk or on a USB flash disk and just click it to launch Service Manager on any PC without previous setup.

The tool's wrapped in a classical interface made from a large window with a neatly organized layout, where you can view a list with currently running services and find out their internal name, status, type (e.g. driver, Win32), display name, start type (e.g. manual, boot, system), and executable's full path.Additional properties include the user visible name, binary file path (Win32 and raw), load order group, logon account and password, along with service description. It's possible to change the service type and start mode, along with the binary file path, load order group and description.Moreover, you can stop, restart or delete services, add new ones to the list, customize the columns to show in the main app window, as well as refresh displayed information. There are no other notable options provided by this software utility.

Evaluation and conclusion

We haven't come across any stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that the program didn't freeze, crash or prompt error messages. It left a small footprint on system performance, using low CPU and RAM.Although it doesn't come equipped with rich options or configuration settings, Service Manager offers a simple solution for monitoring and managing Windows services, and it can be handled by anyone. We must also keep in mind that it hasn't been updated for a long while.
