Text to File Renamer is a tiny and portable software application that proposes a very simple method for renaming multiple files in bulk. It can be handled by users of any level of experience.

No installation necessary

Since the entire program is wrapped up in a single executable file, you can drop it in any part of the disk or on a removable storage unit to directly launch it on any PC effortlessly, without having to install anything beforehand. More importantly, it doesn't create new entries in the Windows registry.

Represented by a single window split into two panels for inputting files and entering their new names, the interface lets you add as many files as you want via drag-and-drop support, and write the new name of each file in the next pane, just like writing text in a word processor.

How it works

As indicated by Text to File Renamer, it's not necessary to write the file extension, since the app is only capable of editing the name. Once you specify the new name of each item, you can click a button to instantly apply the new changes.According to our tests, the tool cannot set the name of an existing file to another file from the same directory, in order to avoid duplicates. After carrying out a task, it automatically updates the file name entries in the first panel. Although it may seem like you can continue to update file names, this is not possible, so it's necessary to clear both panels and start the while operation from scratch.

Other options

You can clear both panels or just the right or left one. Furthermore, Text to File Renamer lets you sort the files in the first panel in alphabetical order, select all, cut, copy and paste file names, as well as make the frame stay on top of other windows.

Evaluation and conclusion

The tool worked smoothly in our tests, without triggering the OS to hang, crash or display error dialogs. Unsurprisingly, it had minimal impact on computer performance, using low CPU and RAM.Although it's not an advanced piece of software, Text to File Renamer provides you with a fast and simple method to renaming multiple files at the same time.
