True X-Mouse Gizmo : Auto-copies text to the Clipboard as soon as it's selected, runs in the systray, and shows details about opened windows in a tracking and debugging window
True X-Mouse Gizmo is an OS enhancement tool that runs in the systray and speeds up the text copying operation. When this application is running, you can simply select text to automatically copy it to the Clipboard, instead of triggering the Ctrl+C hotkey, or opening the right-click menu to select the "Copy" entry.
No installation necessary
It's not wrapped in a setup pack but keeps its configuration data in a single executable instead. This file can be copied on the local hard disk or a removable storage unit to seamlessly launch True X-Mouse Gizmo on any computer. It shouldn't add new entries to the Windows registry.
Runs in the systray
Once deployed, the small program shows a new icon in the systray, an event which should have probably been indicated through a balloon message or other type of notification.Left-clicking the icon brings up its tracking and debugging window, where you can examine technical details about currently running processes, including the window title, class name and handle.
Standard options and how it works
Just a couple of basic settings can be tinkered with. More specifically, it's possible to hide the status bar, show tray notifications in this window, as well as erase displayed information. When Gizmo is working, text is copied to the Clipboard as soon as it's selected. While it's true that the utility put the middle mouse button in charge with text pasting, this action can be also done with the classical Ctrl+P hotkey.
Observations and conclusion
The tool didn't perform as expected in our tests. It sometimes failed to copy the selected text to the Clipboard, and it interfered with the classical Ctrl+C command (when Gizmo doesn't work, Ctrl+C doesn't function either). On top of that, it made the title bar of the opened applications look like they were active on mouse hover, and it interfered with the Alt+Tab command when attempting to cycle through apps.To conclude, True X-Mouse Gizmo needs more work.
