On the one hand, the application skips you the time and effort needed to go through an installation process, and you can carry it around to check other computers as well. This means that the computer you use it on doesn’t get affected, because registries remain clean. Just make sure that .NET Framework is installed, to ensure functionality.Running the application brings up a rather confusing main window. Sure enough the visual design is simple, and doesn’t need to create any problems, with a list of items to check, and the check set to use, selected from a drop-down menu. The process is also initiated from there.

Quick analysis and neat display of results

Sooner or later you end up hitting the start button. It doesn’t take a lot of time for it to finish, and there’s also a progress slider in case you’re really impatient. Results are shown in the same window, with the summary informing you about number of tests performed, as well as successful, and failed attempts.The application only informs you of malfunctioning, or missing elements. Scanned areas target the Global Assembly Cache (GAC), directory, file system security, ping, file, configuration file, SQL, and registry items. It’s easy to tell which are the faulty elements, with related details provided. Sadly, there’s no option to save the list of events to file for later analysis, or close inspection.

In conclusion

All things considered, we can safely state that System Check is not your everyday system care tool, and you might end up scratching your head if you don’t really use the PC for more than a daily dose of Internet. Settings are all stored in an XML file you can edit, but it would have been useful to see an option to save the log to file.
