Developed in C#, WinRichCopy is a lightweight piece of software designed to quickly copy large and very large files from one location or another by splitting them into multiple parts to copy all pieces at the same time using multiple threads. This way, it aims to reduces the normal time spent transferring files when relying on the Windows built-in copy function.

Installer, prerequisites, and interface

Setting up this tool doesn't take a long time, since there are no special options displayed in the wizard steps. However, it depends on .NET Framework to work properly, so you should make sure to have this platform installed.Regarding the interface, WinRichCopy opts for a standard window whose layout has a simple design, revealing the handful of options put at your disposal.

Copy files using multi-thread support

By resorting to the integrated file browser, you can locate a file and specify its destination. The copying operation starts with one click and, during the task, you can check out various statistics, such as elapsed and remaining time, together with progress percentage.The software utility also integrates a feature for calculating the MD5 hash of a file and comparing it with an existing item in the destination directory, in order to check whether or not the two files match. In case they do, there's no need to perform the file copy operation.

Evaluation and conclusion

The app carried out tasks in a decent amount of time in our tests, during which it remained minimal on system resources consumption, as it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to function normally.On the other hand, we expected a richer set of options from this type of software dedicated to file copy with multi-thread support, such as the possibility to pause and resume tasks. We are also keeping in mind that WinRichCopy hasn't received updates for a long time.
