Temptation Blocker : Block out distractions to focus on work by temporarily restricting access to any program or video game, and create multipurpose profiles
Temptation Blocker is a very simple-to-use software application that may come in handy when trying to block out distractions in order to focus on work , by disabling access to any installed program on your computer for a limited time. It features easy-to-understand options.
Quick setup and simple GUI
The installation procedure does not take a long time to finish. As for the interface, Temptation Blocker opts for a regular window with a plain and simple structure, where a list with all installed programs is immediately shown at startup.
Select apps and specify the no-access time
All you have to do is scroll the list and select one, two or more applications to temporarily disable access to, as well as select the amount of time you want to block it for (in hours and minutes). All changes are applicable with the click of a button.
Add new programs and create multipurpose profiles
It is possible to add a new program to the list by pointing out its executable file via the file browser, delete selected apps from the list, select and deselect all entries, as well as create a new profile with a custom selection, save it to file and import it at a later time, which comes in handy to create multiple files for various purposes (e.g. work, play).
Restrict access to Windows tools and enter a long string to lift restrictions
Worth mentioning is that it is also possible to block access to certain Windows tools, such as Command Prompt, which helps administrators restrict access to guest users.Once activated, the application creates an icon in the system tray area. It gives users the possibility to lift all restrictions, but they have to manually type a long, 32-letter string to do so, so they have to decide whether it's worth the effort or not.
Evaluation and conclusion
The program does not hog system resources, since it runs on low CPU and RAM. It did not hang, crash or pop up error messages in our tests. All in all, Temptation Blocker comes packed with handy settings for temporarily blocking access to specific apps, which definitely comes to the aid of procrastinators.
