One of the most popular file managers out there is Total Commander, due to its dual-panel interface and versatile options. Total Commander features a built-in file viewer named Lister, which allows you to preview all kinds of file formats.Even so, not all the files are displayed as they should,  due to their particular structure. For instance, Access database files can be opened with Lister, but their content is read as text, and not displayed in a table, as you might expect. Access DB Viewer is a plugin for Total Commander that addresses this issue.

Install the plugin to view Access files in Lister

The plugin is easy to install, as you just have to navigate to the Configuration window of Total Commander, open the plugins section and choose to configure Lister plugins. In the newly opened window, you can add new WLX plugins either in x86 or x64 mode.There is no need to restart Total Commander after you add Access DB Viewer in the plugins list. In fact, you will be able to open Microsoft Access files with Lister immediately.

Opens Access database files in a structured table

Access DB Viewer supports MDB and ACCDB files, opening both in Lister. You will notice that the content of the database tables is no longer displayed as plain text. Instead, the table header is displayed, and all the entries are shown in a structured manner. Moreover, you can click on the header columns to sort the data by various criteria ascending or descending.In addition to this, Access DB Viewer enables you to quickly switch tables from a simple drop-down menu and filter your data. The lower side of the window reveals statistical information about the number of tables, records, and fields. All the other options in Lister remain the same.

Access DB Viewer is a simple plugin, but it can do much for you if you are working with Total Commander on a daily basis. It manages to tweak Lister and make it display the content of a database inside an MDB or ACCDB file in a table, which allows you to read data easier.
