Overview

What is LogDir?

LogDir : Analyze a target folder in order to view how much space files and subfolders take up, and save the list as a TXT file, or append to an existing one

In depth

A closer look at LogDir

It’s good to look after your files and folders after a while to prevent your disk space from becoming overwhelmed. Sure enough, this can be done through the default tools Windows puts at your disposal, but less effort is required when relying on specialized applications like LogDir to count, and shows files along with size they take.

Load a directory to inspect

It takes only a little while before you get to see what the application can do for you. Accommodation is among the last things you need to worry about, with a clean interface, and intuitive overall design to quickly get you up and running. The application’s core function is to analyze a folder you provide, and then show you all files and folders inside, along with information about disk size. As such, you need to load a target directory first, but you need to do so with the built-in browse dialog, because dragging it over the main window has no effect.

Poor display of results, and no filter options

You might end up scratching your head for a while, right after loading the directory, because nothing shows up. The application lets you decide whether you want to have files enlisted, or subfolders. A press of a button is enough to fill the list with all detected items. However, the application leaves more to be desired in terms of display, and it can get really difficult to analyze a large list, especially because the main window can’t be resized. What’s more, relative size on disk is poorly read, and the total amount of space taken is not shown. Export options allow you to save this raw list under the TXT format, or append it to an existing one.

A few last words

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that LogDir comes with good intentions, but files are shown in a rather poor manner, and size is not always accurate. With no built-in search function, filter options, or possibility to resize the main window, overall practicality has a lot to suffer.
