Folders Size : Analyze used disk space better by scanning the content of an entire folder to view size of directories and files in an organized list
Folders don’t actually have any size on your hard disk drive at all. The space they take is determined by the files stored inside, and it can be a pain to analyze this with Windows built-in tools. In this regard, specialized applications like Folders Size scan data inside specific directories for better inspection of disk usage.
Easily select a target folder
The setup process requires little effort and time, and you can check out the set of features before you realize. When launched, the application brings up two large empty panels, and might leave you scratching your head for a while. This is only because there’s no folder selected by default. As the name suggests, the application gives you the possibility to analyze disk space in an intuitive manner, with options to view both file and folder size, unlike File Explorer which only shows size of files. Selecting a target folder is the first step, and this can either be done by pasting in a directory path in the dedicated field, or using the built-in browse dialog.
Organized list of results quickly delivered
Although it’s not a major inconvenience, it would have been useful to see a system context menu integration to analyze folders a bit faster. In any case, it doesn’t take long for the application to display results, but you need to manually trigger the scan process.Once done, the central list shows all files and folders inside the target directory, with corresponding fields like name, size, size percentage, number of folders, as well as number of files. Sadly, you can’t sort by clicking the column headers, but the list is already shown according to size. What’s more, there’s no possibility to save results to a log file, in case it’s required in other projects.
A few last words
Although disk space is becoming less of a concern, programs and video games in particular also grow in size, and the whole situation is going back to the times that made you wonder what’s taking up so much disk space. Luckily, applications like Folders Size let you take a better look to decide what stays and goes.
