The File Rename tool is created with the purpose of renaming a large number of files at once, by sequence number. It is able to modify file names using text, digits and file dates, set file limitations by format and size, as well as to resize pictures.
Portable app with a clean interface
The application consists of a single file (.exe) which can be saved on any computer or removable storage unit and run effortlessly. If you want to remove the program, you can easily delete it and that concludes the process.File Rename comes with a user-friendly interface, with four tabs in its window (each created with its own purpose) and, after dropping files into the window, you can configure file naming settings, preview modifications and proceed with the operation.
Rename files using text, numbers and file dates
The first tab, “General”, offers the possibility of renaming files with appended text, digits and file dates. Here you can include the subfolders as well. There are other options too, which let you set the number of digits and even the starting number.“Replace/Rename” is the second tab, which enables you to look for a specific text through the names of all files and then replace it with anything you specify.
Apply the naming filters and resize pictures
The third tab is “Filter”. Here you can refine the search by using the preset file types, such as image files, PowerPoint, Access and PDF. In case you are not satisfied with the presets, you can specify custom file extensions and, for a more precise search, set the minimum and maximum size in kilobytes, megabytes or gigabytes. The final tab is “Image Resize”, which gives you two ways to customize the size of your images: by percentage or maximum pixel. For the second method, you can either select a preset resolution or customize the width and height.
Preview file name changes and generate reports
File Rename comes with two advantages for all its tabs. One of them offers a preview before you save the changes. So, whether you want to replace the name of certain documents or change the size of images, a preview will be shown and the changes can only be saved after making all the necessary adjustments to obtain accurate results. The second advantage is that it generates reports of file information which can be analyzed anytime.
Fast and easy-to-use file renamer
To conclude, File Rename is a free, portable and user-friendly tool which ran with low CPU and memory usage, and no errors occurred during our tests. The file renaming process was fast but, despite its portability advantages, you should know the program needs .NET Framework to function.
