In depth

A closer look at Memory-kun

Sure enough the better and beefier the hardware components the faster video games and specialized applications can run. Every running process takes up a bit of some resource type, which in the end can count up as a lot. However, you can use small tools like Memory-kun to track usage and know when to stop, or manually take action to free up some RAM.

Can be used on the go

One of the application’s main advantages is represented by portability. On the one hand, this means it’s good to go from the moment download is done, thus enabling you to store it on a thumb drive in case you want to use it on other computers as well. On the other hand, using it doesn’t affect stability of the target system because registry entries are kept intact during the process.Running the application instantly brings up a small floating panel which you can easily drag across the desktop to a suitable position, but not resize. When not used you can minimize it to the taskbar, and highlighting the corresponding icon shows a small preview. Sadly, it can’t be sent to the tray area instead.

Straightforward RAM monitoring

The visual design can feel a little rough around the edges. Simple panels and textures are used to house all features, which don’t count as many anyway. As such, the only thing you’re able to read is the total, free, and virtual memory on your computer. There’s also a progress slider which also indicates free memory in percentage.Unfortunately, the application doesn’t come with any quick launch methods of its own, but you can add a shortcut to the system Startup folder to have it ready when reaching the desktop, or assign a hotkey command to the shortcut to launch it from anywhere.

A few last words

All things considered, we come to the conclusion that Memory-kun is a straightforward RAM monitoring tool from all points of view. There’s no option to attempt and free up memory, nor be alerted when it reaches critical levels.
