FileRenamer : Change the name of multiple files by using regular expressions.
File management is of paramount importance if users wish to attain an organized setup, regardless if it’s their PC or a professional workstation. One of the main parts of setting up a file management scheme is renaming the files. FileRenamer sets out to help people select their data and rename it with ease, thanks to its simple and efficient workflow that offers support for auto-numbering.
Clear interface that improves handling and offers instant renaming functionality
Selecting the files that need to be renamed is quite straightforward, and users can resort to the featured file browser. However, it might have been beneficial if drag-and-drop was supported, as some could find this more efficient.Several files can be added in the list, and the application adds them alphabetically, by their existing names. All users need to do to rename them is to input a text template or check the “Numerate” tick box, which will automatically rename the files, according to their sorting in the list.
Lack of more substantial features might bother some users
The drawbacks of this application become apparent rather quickly, as more advanced users could require features that would enable them to perform more in-depth sorting. Consequently, the app’s list view doesn’t offer just two tabs for sorting, and more, such as file type or date modified could have been better.Additionally, the renaming using the template appends the selected text to the end of the file name, and there is no support for prefix renaming or insertion of characters at designated locations. Add the fact that there are no numeration options for setting the preferred increment or decimal base, and some users might seek more capable alternatives such as Batch File Renamer.
A good compromise for avoiding to rename files manually, but which might benefit from more features
Those who seek a basic and easy-to-use app that enables them to rename files without too many troubles could rely on the features carried by FileRenamer. Nevertheless, more demanding users could require extra features which are not offered.
