ModemTest : Test dial-up modems using two different approaches and get information about the number of sent and received packets, transmission and reception speed, as well as number of packets that arrived with an error
ModemTest is a lightweight Windows application designed for helping you test dial-up modems.
Clean feature lineup
The GUI provides a well-structured suite of features. An online help manual is available in case you want to find out more about the program’s configuration settings.
Make use of two testing modes
The utility makes use of two different types of tests for detecting connection errors, namely Master (Dialer)/Slave (Receiver) and Local Diagnostics. The first mode is based upon two telephone lines and two modems in a master/slave configuration. During the test the phone number of the slave model is dialed and, in case of successful connections, data packets are exchanged between the master and slave. The second approach uses a single modem (no telephone line is needed to complete the process) for sending data packets which are transmitted back to the modem. During both tests the program establishes the connection to the modem via COM.
Test results and logs
ModemTest gives you the possibility to monitor details about the status of the test phase, number of sent and received packets, transmission and reception speed, as well as number of packets that arrived with an error. The activity log records details about the transactions and errors, shows data directly in the main window, and can be exported to plain text file format.
Configuration settings
The utility lets you select the port, adjust the port speed, and provide details about the test duration, connection timeout, modem initialization string, and phone number. What’s more, you can repeat the test cycle indefinitely, add a delay between cycles, choose the data transfer direction (one or two-way), and test data using random info or a file.
Final words
All in all, ModemTest provides two different types of tests that you can try for verifying your dial-up modems, and is suitable especially for skilled users.
