Overview

What is ProcessKiller?

ProcessKiller : Terminate currently running processes by clicking their entry in a list shown by this application that runs in the system tray area

In depth

A closer look at ProcessKiller

ProcessKiller is a simple application that gives you the possibility to terminate currently running processes from the system tray. It doesn't include complex options or customization preferences, making it accessible to all types of users.

Simple setup with systray integration

The installation procedure is a swift task that shouldn't impose any difficulties, since there are no unfamiliar options, software requirements, or third-party tools involved.Once launched, it creates an icon in the taskbar notifications area and signals its presence with a balloon message.

View and terminate running processes

Left-clicking the tray icon brings up a small panel with the currently active processes, which are immediately identified and listed. You can check out the name and ID of each process, along with the total. In order to end a program, all you have to do is browse the list for its entry and click on it. Just be careful not to accidentally close applications you're working on. The tool doesn't require user confirmation to perform the task. It's not even necessary to double-click an item, since a single click suffices.Plus, you can update the list if any changes were made in the meantime, as well as open the tray icon's right-click menu to integrate ProcessKiller into the Windows autostart sequence, so it gets launched by default every time you turn on the computer.

Evaluation and conclusion

It worked smoothly in our tests, without triggering the OS to hang, crash or prompt error messages. System resources consumption was minimal, since it required a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. However, ProcessKiller doesn't have a security measure to prevent you from accidentally terminating processes, such as displaying a message dialog asking for confirmation. Nevertheless, you can test it for yourself.
