Restarter is a simple, yet powerful application that permits you to quickly select some Windows options from the system tray area, such as shutting down the computer or terminating all non-responding tasks. It does not come equipped with complex features, making it accessible to all kinds of PC users, even those inexperienced with such apps.

Portability advantages

Since installation is not a prerequisite, you can save the program files in any part of the hard disk and just click the executable to run. Another option is to save Restarter to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any PC effortlessly and without previous installers.Worth mentioning is that the Windows registry and Start menu do not get updated with new entries, and no extra files are created on the disk, thus leaving no traces behind once it is removed.

Accessibility via the system tray area

At startup, Restarter creates an icon in the taskbar notification area and captures the user's attention by popping up a balloon messages. This represents the app's entire interface. By clicking this icon you can immediately restart Explorer or the Aero service in Windows 7, terminate all non-responding tasks, start Task Manager, restart, shut down or log off the PC, as well as access the Windows Calculator or Notepad.What's more, the program can be set to automatically run at every system startup until further notice. There are no other notable options available here.

Evaluation and conclusion

As we expected from such a small and simple tool, it runs on low CPU and RAM, so it does not hog system resources. Since it sits quietly in the system tray area, it does not interfere with normal user activity on the computer. It may not be particularly resourceful, but Restarter can prove to be quite handy when looking to rapidly kill non-responding tasks, access some Windows tools or trigger power options.
