In depth

A closer look at FluidMark

FluidMark is a comprehensive and reliable physics benchmark based on NVIDIA PhysX engine that comes in handy for users who need to perform a fluid simulation.Because it supports a wide range of devices, ranging from smartphones to high-end multicore CPUs and GPUs, NVIDIA PhysX provides users with a scalable and practical multi-platform solution whose main purpose is to simulate rigid bodies and fluid particle systems.Quite interesting about FluidMark is that it uses the SPH algorithm (also referred to as Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) and also exploits OpenGL for graphics accelerations. This way, you need to make sure that your computers meets all the requirements, otherwise you won’t be able to increase the realism of the fluid. The main window of the application is very simply as it allows you to modify the screen resolution according to your needs, change the anti-aliasing filter to 4X MSAA, set the number of emitters and modify the particle count with ease. After running one of the benchmark tests, you can preview the processed PhysX CPU particles, the used frames and the OpenGL renderer, considering that the application requires an OpenGL 2.0 compliant graphics card, here referring to NVIDIA GeForce 5/6/7/8/9/GTX200 (and higher), AMD/ATI Radeon 9600+ or a S3 Graphics Chrome 400 series. However, during the benchmarking process, you will probably notice that the computer might not respond to some commands. This is due to the fact that once the test is started, all the CPU resources will be used by the application.Afterwards, when the test is finished, a new window will be displayed from where you can analyze the score with ease. The main used renderer, the CPU speed, the available system memory, the operating system and the PhysX version are also displayed. To wrap it up, FluidMark allows you to tweak the benchmark features and perform a fluid simulation test using the SPH algorithm.
