Overview

What is TextSound?

TextSound : Have the computer read text for you by simply creating audio files of different formats from plain text files, with different voice, and audio file configurations

In depth

A closer look at TextSound

A computer can combine sound, pictures, and text in quite the variety of ways, given you’re using the right set of tools, and your imagination helps. For instance, you can have text read to you in case you’re busy with something else, and applications like TextSound can easily perform this conversion from text to audio.

Load more TXT files, and choose output parameters

The application is only capable of working with plain TXT files, so it’s best to paste all target text in such a document before taking on conversion. Drag and drop is supported, so you skip the browse dialog. Batch processing is supported, but there’s no method of bundling more documents into a single output audio file. All files you add show up in a list along with details like file name, sound file output, parameters, as well as conversion status. Before conversion, there’s the possibility to get a preview, so you get an idea if any voice-related configurations need to be altered. If you’re not yet ready for conversion, you can save the list, and load it later on.

Manage audio codecs, and voice

In terms of output, you can configure general settings to use for all files, with the possibility to create multiple, custom profiles. MP3, WAV, and more formats are supported, but you need to manually choose from a list of codecs, as well as attributes like bitrate, channels, frequency, and more. You can convert all files using only one voice configuration, or you can take the time to edit for individual files. There’s a decent list of voices you can use, with sliders for pitch, and speed. Sadly, there’s no preview option for voice configuration, unless you trigger it afterwards from the main window. Hitting convert doesn’t take a lot of time to finish the process, with files saved either in the same location, or to a custom folder.

In conclusion

Bottom line is that you might not be able to dedicate your full attention to some paragraphs, and so TextSound can convert it to voice for you. Audio, and output quality settings can be tweaked to obtain the format you need, and conversion takes only a little of your time.
