A closer look at PsYbAsSyX
Creating music doesn’t necessarily require an instrument anymore. With great ideas, knowledge, and some skill assembling notes together, a computer with the right software components is enough. For instance, PsYbAsSyX comes as a VST plugin which can process input audio in a random string with different effects.The application can’t function by itself, because the package only contains the necessary libraries and functions which need to be included in an application like VSTHost. Routing is automatically done by default, with the possibility to modulate other input than the regular, depending on component arrangement.No instrument is really required to make the plugin work, even though results are delivered better with a MIDI device hooked up to the target PC. However, most VST host applications come with a built-in keyboard for instant input.The control panel holds all functions, which include a couple of oscillators, effects, as well as a random sequencer. It works in the form of an equalizer with manual adjustment of sliders. While a key is pressed the sequencer kicks in and emulates sound accordingly.Two oscillators can bend sound on waveforms such as sawtooth, triangle, sine, square, and noise, with the possibility to adjust speed, depth, and note intensity. A set of ADSR sliders determines general audio type, with additional resonance, envelope, and cutoff filters.
