Since these can pile up and eat up a lot of disk space, applications like Duplicate File Fixer got specially designed to detect two similar entries in custom folders and have them removed.

Rough visuals, but intuitive design

First of all, the application is good to go from the moment download is done, because there’s no setup involved. This is a cool advantage, but you do need to install Java Runtime Environment for things to work as planned. Don’t worry about the health status of the target PC because registry entries have no saying in this operation.As far as the visual design is concerned, the application feels a little rough around the edges, with a plain style for the main window, and operations handled in a command line window which shows up when triggering the process. What’s more, the main window is also fitted with a console window which shows status, but not in great detail.

Good, but far from being a pro

You might end up scratching your head for a while, at least on the first attempt. However, this is only the case if duplicate files are in both selected folders, but also in subfolders of the first selection. This means that you don’t necessarily have to load a folder in both slots, because all duplicates are located even in one selected folder and all of its subdirectories.The whole operation runs in a command line window and you can see all files being scanned. It pauses when a set of duplicates is detected, letting you know in what directories, and making it possible to delete either, or skip the pair. Unfortunately, duplicates are handled one at a time.
