Overview

What is FileCopy?

FileCopy : Copy files from one directory to another to create backups for important data quickly and seamlessly using this Java-based program

In depth

A closer look at FileCopy

FileCopy is a lightweight application developed in Java, which gives you the possibility to copy files from one directory to another. It doesn't come bundled with rich features, making it ideal for times when the built-in copy function of Windows becomes faulty due to various reasons.

No installation necessary, besides Java

Provided that you have Java installed on your computer, you don't need to set up anything else. The files from the downloaded archive can be extracted to a preferred location on the hard drive or copied to a USB flash drive to be able to seamlessly run FileCopy on any PC with Java. It doesn't integrate new entries into the system registry or create files on the disk without letting you know about it.

Copy files from one folder to another

When it comes to the interface, the application adopts a small frame that shows three buttons. You can resort to the built-in file browser to indicate the source files and destination directory, preview the file name and extension along with the output folder's path, as well as click a button to start the copying operation.

How it works

No message pops up at the end of the task to let you know whether or not it was successful. Instead, you can check this by vising the destination directory in Windows Explorer or another file navigator you have installed.Another notable aspect is that the software utility is not designed to copy multiple files to the same folder at the same time, although multiple files can be selected and seemingly included in the copy operation. If the output file already exists, then the job is abandoned.

Evaluation and conclusion

It didn't hog system resources in our tests, since it needed low CPU and RAM to work properly. No error dialogs popped up and it didn't freeze or crash. On the other hand, FileCopy come packed with a light set of features dedicated to file copying, without making room for configuration. We are also keeping in mind that it hasn't received updates for a long time.
