System Information : View system-related information, such as the full path of special folders, environment variables, methods, and the current stack trace
Geared toward expert users, System Information is a feather-light and portable software utility that provides you with some important information about your computer, such as environment variables and the location of special folders.
Portability advantages
Since there is no setup pack involved, you can save the executable file in any part of the hard disk and just click it to launch the app. Another possibility is to save it to a USB flash drive to be able to directly run it on any computer with minimum effort and no previous installers. What's more, it doesn't modify Windows registry settings.
Simple interface with sys information
The GUI is user-friendly, represented by a common-looking window split into five panes for viewing main data, special folders, methods, environment variables, and system details. When it comes to main data, you can find out the system command line and directory, current folder, machine name, OS version, tick count, user and domain name, version, and working set. It's possible to refresh the tick count and to display the current stack trace as well.
View special folders and methods
Furthermore, you can find out the full path of special folders, such as desktop, My Document, Favorites, Startup entries, recent documents, SendTo menu, My Music, Internet cache and cookies, application data, and My Pictures. As far as methods are concerned, you can obtain command-line arguments for each logical drive, input an environment variable, and specify the exit code.
View environment variables and other info
Environment variable values along with temporary variables can be examined for the system drive, Program Files, temporary directory, user profile, logon server, system root, number of processors, and others. In the last panel you can check out a wide array of property values, such as the arrangement direction and starting position, caption height and button size, debug OS status, border size and 3D size, boot mode, drag size, minimized window dimension, and menu font.
Evaluation and conclusion
We haven't come across any stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that the utility didn't hang, crash or prompt error messages. It had minimal impact on computer performance, using low CPU and RAM.Unfortunately, the app doesn't integrate options for copying data to the Clipboard, printing it or exporting it to file. Nevertheless, you can test System Information for yourself, since it's free.
