goHide is a lightweight and portable application that enables you to easily hide the windows of currently running programs. It comes in handy whenever you want to quickly get rid of sensitive information when you think that someone is looking over your shoulder.

Portability advantages

The utility's not wrapped in a setup kit. Instead, it's packed in a single executable file that can be saved to a custom directory on the disk or copied to a removable storage unit, in order to seamlessly launch it on any PC with minimal effort and no previous setup.It doesn't add new entries to the system registry, create files on the disk without your permission, or need DLLs or other components to work properly. In order to uninstall it, you simply need to delete the .exe item.

Simple interface and options

The GUI of goHide is user-friendly, represented by a small window with a straightforward look, which shows all settings provided by this app. It doesn't put emphasis on graphical elements, yet it's easy to navigate.The currently running programs are automatically detected at startup and listed in the main panel, so you can scroll this list to identify the window you're interested in.

Hide and show windows

Clicking on an entry displays additional details about the window, such as handle and status, along with the left, top, right and bottom margin. Any window can be hidden with the click of a button, and its status can be restored to visible just as easily.Hidden windows disappear from the taskbar and systray. However, the corresponding processes can still be viewed from Task Manager. Another aspect worth noting is that hidden windows are not indicated in any way in the control panel.

Evaluation and conclusion

Although it hasn't received updates for a long time, it worked smoothly in our tests on newer Windows models. We haven't experienced any compatibility issues and it didn't hang or crash. CPU and RAM usage was low. Thanks to its intuitive interface and options, goHide can be handled by anyone.
