Since this is a portable package, you don't need to set up anything. This means that you can save ShellNewHandler anywhere on the disk or on a USB storage unit (like a pen drive) to be able to directly run it on any PC without any previous installers. However, you should keep in mind that it affects the Windows registry when enabling or disabling keys for the file format in question.

Simple and straightforward interface

As far as the GUI is concerned, the application adopts a standard window with a clear-cut structure that shows all options available. It automatically loads all current file extensions that are shown in the "New file" menu, along with details about their description, standard file type and registry key.

Seamlessly enable or disable file types

By default, all file formats are selected, which means that all of them are visible, so you can deselect any one of them to make it invisible. All changes are applicable with the click of a button.The software tool doesn't implement an option for resetting options to default, so you have to select all file extensions to make them visible again. Apart from the fact that the corresponding keys can be opened in Registry Editor via the context menu in the main app window, there are no other notable settings provided.

Evaluation and conclusion

As expected, the utility didn't put a strain on the overall performance of the PC in our tests, running on low CPU and RAM. It carried out modifications rapidly and didn't trigger the operating system to hang, crash or display error messages. It may not have rich features but ShellNewHandler gets the job done when it comes to quickly disabling shell extensions.
