Phyllotaxis Screensaver is a free and little OpenGL screensaver based on Fibonacci phyllotaxis [Greek phyllo, leaf taxis, arrangement]. The Fibonacci Numbers and the Golden Ratio appear in many ways in nature: from the multiplying behavior of rabbits to the growth of seashells. The inspiration for this screensaver comes from seed heads of flowers like the sunflower. In the growth of these seed heads the arrangement forms an optimum packing of the seeds so that, no matter how large the seed head, the seeds are uniformly packed at any stage. Through this growth we see the formation of spiral patterns.
